On this episode of Small Business Japan, I talk with Japanese entrepreneur and author Koko Hayashi who has been featured on TV shows such as Shark Tank and Keeping up with the Kardashians about growing multiple online businesses, building a strong social media following and working with celebrities.
Koko Hayashi was born and raised in Japan, on the northern-most island of Hokkaido. After coming to the US it became her passion to share Japanese beauty secrets that are not widely known outside of Japan by launching Mirai Clinical and spreading her own techniques for Japanese face yoga. She has become a media sensation and continues to work with a number of celebrities as she develops her own face yoga training and certification program as well.
Trends in Japan are not mercenarily a trend or problem that needs solving in other countries.
Anti-aging beauty is a common problem but the market is too competitive. Lessons learned about staying in a particular niche.

Start small and test the market before jumping in with your business. For a product business start with a smaller production batch even if it’s more expensive. You have to pove the market demand is there first.

They aim to stay online and are now offering online face yoga certification to become a teacher.
